Fairford' s good start to the season ended when falling 6 runs short chasing an imposing 271, despite some heroic individual efforts in a game yielding 536 runs.

Rockhamton batting first on a good wicket and a lightening outfield attacked from the off, racing to 47 before Bird claimed a wicket. Town then suffered as Tyler 92 and Hore 111 produced a stand of 189. Both batsmen had slices of good fortune and on another day both would have fell early, however they batted superbly and looked to take Rockhampton well past 300. That they did not was due to some astute bowling changes, disciplined bowling when under pressure with Peyman and Townsend both taking two wickets late on and excellent fielding, capped by stunning catches form Moreing Williams and Newport. Rockhamptons 271-5 although a huge score could have been considerably higher given that the hosts where 236-1 at on stage.

Towns response was more explosive, Townsend in unforgiving mood taking on and despatching the bowling all around the park including a four hooked from almost his nose. He lost his wicket for 46, sandwiched between skipper Leadbeater and Williams town at 66-3 scored at a run a ball. Coming together in the same over Newport and Greener, far from re-building continued the onslaught against the bowling, town maintaining the asked for run rate as both batsmen scored freely. Greener for the third week raced past 50 and having struck four huge 6's and numerous fours looked set for a huge score. A horrible running error however cost Greeners wicket, the stand ending at 162. Gray fell the same over. Newport banishing the error from his mind completed his 50 and with Bullock took town up to the 200, the latter falling to a juggled catch, Clarke soon followed. Newport mustered the tail, taking town closer to the win, the demise of Moreing again to a untidy catch and Peyman to a last over run out showed is was not going to be towns day and they ended 6 runs short at 265-9
